Recently, my PC was infected with something new. Or at least new to me. What it does is it hides my Microsoft Word documents and makes copies of them, this time as an executable file – an application. Have you encountered this problem too? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. And you are in luck, I managed to get rid of the problem and I’m about to share with you the steps I did. The culprit here is a file named Winece.exe and it hides on your Windows folder. To make this short and sweet, here are the steps on how you can get rid of the problem – easily.
First, you need to make sure that the program is not running. To do this go fire up your Task Manager by pressing:
Ctrl + Alt + Del
Then clicking on the Process tab. Look for the Winece.exe program and right click on it and selecting End Process. After making sure that the program is not running, its time to remove the file itself.
Do a quick search on your Windows folder for a file named Winece.exe and permanently erase it by pressing:
Shift + Delete
You’re almost done. The next step is to stop it f rom running whenever you start your PC. You might be wondering why you need to do this when you’ve already deleted the Winece.exe file. Well, this is to make sure that in case your PC gets infected again with the worm, it won’t start automatically. To do this, go to Start > Run then type “msconfig” without the quotes, click on the Startup tab, then uncheck the box next to Winece.
After clicking on OK, restart your PC. Hopefully this problem is gone. Hope this quick Winece.exe manual removal guide helped you out my friend. Oh by the way, this problem managed to get to my PC through an infected USB so you might want to invest on protection.
